The Petrobras (Bovespa: PETR3/PETR4, NYSE: PBR / PBRA, Latibex: XPBR / XPBRA, BCBA: APBR / APBRA) director of exploration and production, Guilherme Estrella, presented the lecture "Pre-salt: technical aspects and implications for the economic activities of goods and services" on Tuesday (17/11) at the Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) in Rio de Janeiro.

 

Presenting the estimates of increased production of the Company with the pre-salt, the director highlighted the opportunities for domestic industry, job creation and the strategic nature that the findings represent for the country.

Estrella assured that Petrobras is ready to be the only operator in the pre-salt and strategic areas. In your opinion, to appoint the Company as operator in all fields, the government ensures the commitment to national development through the orders to Brazilian industry and promoting the engineering and the national universities. "The operator has a huge competitive advantage and at the same time creating scale. This reduces costs, "he said.

The director used the example of the demand for equipment, support vessels and large vessels, and also lists the benefits for Brazilian society, as the training of skilled labor, the tight integration of Petrobras with universities and research centers and appreciation of engineering. According to Estrella, the technology to produce oil and gas in the pre-salt already exists.

The challenges of logistics to produce fields up to 300 miles away are being studied by the Company. "We're just making adjustments to our needs. Technology is dominated, "he said, adding that the pilot of Tupi, in the Santos Basin, should come into operation in December 2010. Other challenges mentioned by the director are the automation platform, which should be less and less inhabited, and the adoption of new materials for offshore equipment.

On the flow of gas produced in the pre-salt, the executive said the Tupi field will be connected to the Mexilhao platform. Subsequently, the gas will go to Caraguatatuba plant. Estrella also pointed out that the $ 104.6 billion for the Exploration and Production in Brazil and abroad, as the Business Plan 2009-2013, 17% (U.S. $ 18.8 billion) will be directed to the pre-salt  Santos Basin. It is expected that the Company produces, only the pre-salt, 219 thousand barrels of oil equivalent in 2013, and 1.8 million barrels in 2020.
