The proven reserves of oil, condensate and natural gas from Petrobras (Bovespa: PETR3 / PETR4, NYSE: PBR / PBRA, Latibex: XPBR / XPBRA, BCBA: APBR / APBRA.) fell 1.5% in 2009 over the previous year. On December 31, 2009, the volume shown by the state was 14.865 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe), according to international criteria.
Petrobras said the drop is due to the inclusion of the reserves of state in Bolivia - a result of the nationalization of the oil and gas in that country by President Evo Morales.
"The reduction in reserves is due to the volume produced in the year and not including the reserves of Bolivia. These reductions were, however, partially offset by the appropriation of reserves in Nigeria, "the company said in a statement.
Also according to the SPE, the rate of reserves replacement in 2009 was 75% and the reserve / production (R / P) was 17 years. On December 31, 2009 proved reserves amounted to 12.143 billion barrels of oil equivalent, in this case an increase of 9% over the previous year.
However, according to the criteria of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for 2009, Petrobras appropriated 1.824 billion barrels of oil equivalent of proved reserves and produced 872 million boe, which resulted in an increase of 952 million boe in relation to reservations for 2008.
According to the SEC criteria the rate of reserves replacement in 2009 was 209%. The reserve / production relationship was in 14 years. According to ANP / SPE Criteria, December 31, 2009 the proven reserves of oil, condensate and natural gas fields under concession by Petrobras in Brazil amounted to 14.169 billion barrels of oil equivalent (boe), representing an increase of 0.5 % compared to 2008.
The report of Petrobras of the reserves is published on the company Internet site, where the company publishes the fall in the volume of proved reserves was due to the requirement of the government of Bolivia to the Brazilian company excluded from the calculation of the Petrobras reserves of 2009 in the country, which reduced the international reserves to 696 million barrels of oil equivalent.
Petrobras stated, moreover, that although the region's pre-salt may have contributed to the reserves at 182 million barrels of oil equivalent, the findings of the new frontier of exploration are still under evaluation, they had not declared their marketing to National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) and therefore are not contributing significantly to the results of 2009.
