Transpetro, a subsidiary of Petrobras, classified commercial proposals for the construction of eight ships to transport gas from the Program for the Modernization and Expansion of the Fleet (Promef). The lowest price was submitted by the shipyard Promar Ceará, followed by the shipyards Ilha SA (EISA) and Maua. The prices offered will be negotiated now in a process coordinated by the bidding committee, following the ranking of proposals.
The deal, envisaged by the legislation, aimed at obtaining the best financial conditions for Transpetro. Only at the end of this process, the company will announce the winning bidder and the contract value.
United in a single lot all gas tankers that are part of Promef, four of 7000 m³, two of 12,000 m³ and two 4,000 m³. The construction of the ships will be held on a shipyard located in Brazil and will reach a nationalization index of 70%, at least, in the purchase of equipment and services.
The Promef - who revitalized the Brazilian naval industry - is already generating 15 thousand direct jobs in Brazil. This number will reach 40 thousand with the demand generated by the reserves of pre-salt (subsalt). The program envisages the construction of 49 vessels, totaling 4 million tonnes deadweight. Already been auctioned 33 ships, six of them will be thrown overboard in 2010.
