Petrobras signed last Friday (18/12) contracts for the development of engineering projects for the construction of a onboard natural gas liquefaction unit (ONGU). The goal is to harness the natural gas from the fields of pre-salt Santos Basin.
The ONGU unit is a completely innovative project in the world and offers several advantages over the pipeline, there are no major environmental problems such as those that occur with the installation of pipelines over long distances at sea, offering the advantage of the gas can be transported directly to the nearest ports to use, and the possibility of direct shipment for export from the pre-salt production areas when domestic demand decreases. World first, the project is a technology solutions that Petrobras is studying to flow to the natural gas produced in the pre-salt layers, with the fields at a distance of approximately 300 kilometers off the Brazilian coast.Attended the ceremony in Rio, the director of Gas and Energy of Petrobras, Maria das Graças Foster, the commercial vice president of BG Brazil, Ricardo Mucci, the CEO of Petrogal Brazil, Ricardo Jorge Fernandes Peixoto and, the Repsol General Manager of Gas Projects to Brazil, Jorge Gómez de la Fuente. The four companies are partners in the joint venture for the development of projects.
Initially formed by Petrobras, the joint venture will develop the economic feasibility studies for construction of the plant, which will operate in blocks BM-S-9 and BM-S-11, all in the Pole of pre-salt Santos Basin.
Considered strategic, the project will monetize natural gas reserves in the Pre-Salt (subsalt), "allowing the flexibility to service the domestic market and the possibility of export in the short term market [spot] in periods of reduced demand in the thermoelectric segment in Brazil," justifies Petrobras.
Should it be decided by the implementation of GNLE unit, it will be next to units of production of oil and gas (FPSOs) and receive up to 14 million cubic meters per day of associated gas, running processing and liquefaction.
In the unit, it will also be the storage and transfer of processed products (liquefied natural gas, propane and butane) for ships that will transport to the consumer market. In this article:
