Petrobras, a Brazilian state-company, and Sonangol, Angola's state-company, found a new oil well at 1500 meters deep in block 18/06 in Angola.
Petrobras (Bovespa: PETR3/PETR4, NYSE: PBR / PBRA, Latibex: XPBR / XPBRA, BCBA: APBR / APBRA) has 30% and is operator, Sonangol Sinopec (Chinese-Angola Consortium) with 40%, Sonangol P & P (subsidiary of Sonangol EP) at 20%, Germinas 5% and Falcon Oil (FO:CA) the remaining 5%.
The well, about 200 km north of the capital Luanda, has produced excellent quality oil.
Petrobras is interested in exploring the pre-salt in Angola coast, the country has an underwater rock formation similar to that of Brazil.
Petrobras has a strong interest in working in the drilling of Angola pre-salt area in deepwater and ultra-deep. The Norwegian company StatoilHydro (OSE: STL, NYSE: STO) also said, in July, which is interested in pre-salt of Angola, which rivals Nigeria as the largest African oil producer.
